In 2024, MineFill Services completed a feasibility study for a backfill system designed to meet the operational requirements of the Kabanga Mining Operations in Tanzania.
The study assessed two separate backfill systems to service both the North orebody and the Tembo orebody. Due to the high sulphide content within the tailings, the proposed paste system incorporated crushed and screened waste rock combined with non-pyrrhotite tailings to produce paste aggregate fill.
MineFill completed all testing, analysis and engineering assessments required to support feasibility design development and project costing.

The Kabanga Nickel Project required a backfill solution capable of servicing multiple mining areas while addressing the challenges associated with high sulphide tailings. The system needed to provide reliable backfill production while supporting long-term operational requirements across the project.
MineFill undertook detailed testing, engineering analysis and feasibility assessments to develop a suitable backfill strategy for the operation. The proposed solution incorporated two dedicated backfill systems servicing separate orebodies and utilised a combination of crushed and screened waste rock with non-pyrrhotite tailings to produce paste aggregate fill.
The completed feasibility study provided the technical foundation for future project development, including system design parameters, production requirements and capital cost estimates. The project highlights MineFill’s capability to support mining operations through early-stage studies, testing and engineering assessment.
