In 2022, MineFill Services partnered with South32 to provide feasibility study support and underground reticulation design for the Hermosa Project in the United States.
The project focused on developing backfill infrastructure solutions for the Clark and Taylor deposits, including the design of an underground reticulation system to support future mining operations.
Following completion of the feasibility study, MineFill undertook a comprehensive testing program to optimise paste mix designs and support operational planning and project permitting activities. In 2025, MineFill was further engaged to refine paste mix designs and complete numerical modelling to determine paste strength requirements for the undercut stopes.
Project budget
The Hermosa Project required a practical backfill strategy capable of supporting multiple underground deposits while meeting operational, permitting and long-term mine planning requirements. Detailed engineering and testing were required to establish the most suitable approach for future backfill operations.
MineFill developed an underground reticulation design for the Clark and Taylor deposits and completed a comprehensive testing program to optimise paste mix performance. The project also included technical support for operational planning, permitting activities and advanced numerical modelling to validate paste strength requirements.
The study and testing program provided South32 with critical engineering data and design recommendations to support future project development. MineFill’s ongoing involvement demonstrates its ability to provide long-term technical support from feasibility through to operational optimisation.
