Delivering a complete paste transfer system for underground mine expansion

In 2025, MineFill completed the engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning of major upgrades to the Tritton paste fill system, supporting operations at the Budgerygar underground mine.

The project centred on the delivery of a new pump and pipeline transfer system capable of transporting paste approximately 2,000 metres from the existing Tritton paste plant to the Budgerygar underground operation. The completed system provides a reliable and efficient backfill solution that supports ongoing mine development and production activities.

MineFill delivered a fully integrated EPC solution that connected existing paste infrastructure with a growing underground operation through a purpose-built transfer and distribution system.

Project Details

As mining activities expanded into the Budgerygar underground operation, a reliable method was required to transport paste fill from the existing Tritton paste plant to the new mining area.

The project required a long-distance transfer solution capable of maintaining operational performance while integrating seamlessly with existing site infrastructure and future production requirements.

MineFill developed an innovative backfill concept based on dry grinding technology, adapting proven processes from the cement industry to manufacture paste fill from quartzite mine waste.

The study also incorporated advanced numerical modelling of paste performance and ground support requirements, ensuring the proposed solution could meet both operational and geotechnical objectives while remaining practical for implementation at site.

The completed paste transfer system successfully extended the capability of the existing Tritton paste plant and provided a dependable backfill supply to the Budgerygar underground operation.

By delivering the project through a complete EPC model, MineFill provided a streamlined solution that improved operational efficiency while supporting the continued growth of the mining operation.
